“interesting’ has always a positive meaning so also the word “pretty”. So pretty is good replacement for strangely before the word “interesting”. As:

However, “curious can mean both ways. So pretty can not fit well in place of strangely before the word “curious”. In my opinion, quite is a good replacement As:
People seem to be strangely/quite curious about banned films.

I'd say it can be read literally.
Interesting in a strange way.
Curious in a strange way. (But if something is curious, you could say it was strange anyway).
