I was recently pointed out by somebody that you cannot feel hungry, you can be hugry, usage of feeling is incorrect.

I can't think of any feelings that you can have that you can't say "I feel <feeling>" for. <feeling> has to be an adjective - sleepy, hungry, tired, happy, petulant, faint, obstreperous ...
What are some words that you think you can't use this way?

In this case, it's unnecessary.
In some other cases, there is a difference in meaning.
"I'm feeling sick" sometimes means "I'm feeling nauseated"
"I'm sick" means "I'm unwell".
If you were feeling faint, you'd say "I'm feeling faint", not "I'm faint".
Then there are cases where you have to use "feeling" because otherwise your sentence wouldn't be true. eg. You win $20 in the lotto.
"I'm feeling rich!" not "I'm rich" (which you aren't).

By the way, in all these cases "I'm feeling ... " can be replaced by "I feel ...", and this is more common, at least where I come from.

I know that this kind of use is common in Indian English, and I wouldn't say it was wrong exactly but I would prefer "You sound tired".
