    A persona can also be a disguise, or an adopted personality.
    Personas are often used online - even on sites such as this. A person's real offline personality could be quite different from the persona that they project online. You can adopt a nickname and an avatar. You can be any age or sex, etc. - that is your online persona.
    Of course this happens more explicitly in role-playing games.

    The common feature between disguise and literary device is intention; you've got whatever personality you've got. But a persona is something you assume/put on.
