Phrase word needed .. its driving me crazy!!

Please help..

For the past two weeks this has been on my mind, everyone I ask does not know and it’s now driving them crazy as well...

I need to know what the word is that describes the following....

To accelerate a point out of context and then use that argument to argue the case...

For example.

Person A : keep the change,
Person B: why did you do that?
Person A: it’s only a penny, its 1% of the price!
Person B: yeah that’s like saying that if it had cost you £10,000,000 and you said keep the change, that’s £100,000 and you would not do that would you???

Ok I have done a bit of research here. I know there is a specific term for this aimed solely at this type of context. It is not exaggeration, Over exaggeration, Hyperbolic (close though I believe) or hyperbole.

The only thing I can think of is a term known as Faulty Logic. It's taking what seems to be a logical statement that is flawed and building an argument from it.

I agree that hyperbolic (adj) is close. In fact, it's about the closest thing I can think of. In fact, I think hyperbole (n) is the term I would use here, although I agree with Lady Hawk that it might be considered an example of faulty logic...I'm just not sure of what specific type. Hyperbole is exaggeration or overstatement, and that is precisely what the speaker is using. The question then, it seems, is why the speaker is using exaggeration and overstatement and whether or not that reason somehow disqualifies it from being considered hyperbole.

Hyperbole is often used to simply emphasize a point, as in "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse." However, the use of hyperbole is not limited to just that. Hyperbole can be used in a number of ways, and one of those ways is certainly to move an argument forward in a dramatic, provocative, emotionally-charged manner. That certainly describes what is happening in your example.

I'm going with hyperbole, at least until somebody comes up with something I think is genuinely better.

Slippery slope argument.

Priest: My parishioners wish to use contraception.
Cardinal: Out of the question!
Priest: But it's merely preventing conception where conception is not intended.
Cardinal: Yes, and then they'll want my blessing for abortions.
Priest: Well, I'm not asking ...
Cardinal: Then it will be infanticide by choice. Parents will be killing their children if they're not happy with them. Pretty soon we'll be condoning free-for-all murder. Do you want people slaughtering each other with our blessings? No? Then condoms are out of the question!
