| Several factors will influence the answer. What is your mother tongue (L1)? Where do you live? How old are you? Last edited by Anglika; 03-Sep-2009 at 11:03. Reason: REmoval of unauthorised link |

It will take as long as you are prepared to work at it by practicing. Listen to as much English as you can, recite texts out loud, find a group and use English to communicate. |

| MKODY: 1. The younger you are the more flexible your tongue muscle which permits easier pronunciation improvement. 2. Depending upon your L1, the degree of L1 interference will bear directly upon pronunciation improvement. 3. Your place of residence is also important. Are you in your L1 environment or an English speaking environment? 4. Are you living at home and influenced by your parents language choice? 5. Which English are you trying to speak? 6. Which English do you have a chance to hear the most? 7. How much time do you have each day to actually speak English and with whom? 8. Reading out loud will only fossilize poor pronunciation. 9. Joining the wrong group will only cause you to produce poor English. If I knew more about your circumstances I could give you some expert advice Last edited by Anglika; 03-Sep-2009 at 19:50. |

None of my advice is invalid - all these things can help the uncertain person become more assured to speak. It is no different from the experience of many trying to learn a language in isolation. Practice is the essential thing, and being relaxed about how to do it is also of great importance. Too many restrictive rules inhibit. |

| Apology duly accepted. Let's just agree that there are different approaches and some can be as valid as others. |

| With specific responses to my prior questions I would be happy to give you specific advice. Your gender is also important. |
