1. clever tune means that it's ingenious, brilliant, characterized by new ideas and in your sentence it goes hand in hand with the eye catching graphics. Whatever's witty and sharp sells well.
2. I don't know about John being first to none....this is wrong.
If John is second to none it means he is by far the best, best beyond compare, unbeatable, etc.
