Usage of Available
I heard from a native speaker about the usage of Available, that it cannot be used for humans, it can be only used for items or things. Is it true?
Customer Asks: I would like to speak to your supervisor.
Agent: Sorry sir, at the moment he is not available on the floor.
In the above sentence, is the usage of available appropriate while refering to a person (the supervisor)?
Re: Usage of Available
The word "available" means not only "(of things) that you can get, buy or find" but "(of a person) free to see or talk to people."
- Will she be available this afternoon?
- The director was not available for comment.
