What do you call a chunk (slice) of fruit like the one in sweet lemon or orange? All those chunks together make the edible part of the fruit. These chunks are naturally formed and separate from one another.

I agree that these "pieces" can be described as slices and segments, but I would consider what the student is going to do with this information. Is he going to use it? If so, how is he going to use it?

Put some orange segments in the cake? Would anyone like some segments of orange? If you're going to put orange segments on the cake, be sure to peel the orange first. Orange segments?

I llike the fruit pie that has chunks of orange and lemon in it.

I would take a "slice of orange or lemon" to mean pieces of orange or lemon that someone has cut with a knife, not giving attention to how the fruit separates or comes apart in a natural way.
