Sorry, there's no reason really. Perhaps we feel that cars, like buses and horses, are very high, so we get "on" but cars are low so we get "in."
Why do we say we 'get 'in' the car but we get 'on' a train? Why don't we say we're getting 'in' the train? Thanks, Leah
