Statements VS. Non-Statements & Arguments VS. Non-Arguments
I'm doing some homework but due to feeling ill I missed a lot of the lectures.
A)
How does one differ a sentence is a statement or not?
Examples:
- “Hold that elevator!”
- The opposite of love is indifference.
- Always save your assignments in case your professor loses a copy.
B)
How does one differ if it is a Argument or a Non-Argument and how do you find the the premises and conclusion?
Examples:
-My mother went to work in the local post office for a dollar a day because she graduated from high school at sixteen and had no hope of affording college.
-The human species will one day be extinct. The impact of this realization upon the human psyche is quite jarring, yet science provides evidence for it—99% of all species that have ever lived on earth are now extinct.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Statements VS. Non-Statements & Arguments VS. Non-Arguments
Well, statements are simple facts, arguments have interpretations or opinions in them.
The CN Tower is downtown.
The CN Tower is should be rebuilt because it is ugly, obsolete and in danger of collapsing.
