Article - firm size

Hi,

The following sentence is from a media article. Note that there is no article before ‘firm size’.
Shouldn’t there be a ‘the’ before ‘firm size? Or is the author treating ‘firm size’ as a noun?

"The survey also provided clear evidence that firm size significantly affects the practice of corporate finance."

This is a general use referring to at least, a number of firms, MG, so it isn't made specific by using 'the'. Maybe a paraphrase will help.

The survey also provided clear evidence that the size of any given firm significantly affects the practice of corporate finance.
