'Promise' is a noun and verb. 'Promising' is an adjective, present participle and occasional gerund. If there is more you need to know, perhaps you could supply some sample sentences.

Isn't "promise" also a adjective?

For example, if a man is watching girl playing tennis and he says the following:

She shows promise.

No, it's a noun. 'She showed promise/intelligence/feistiness/agitation/her midriff'.
