Be; Look; Feel; Taste; Smell; Sound; Seem; Appear; Get; Become; Grow; Stay; Keep; Turn; Prove; Go; Remain; Resemble; Run; Lie

And I think that you could add all of yours to the list.

To the best of my knowledge, any sentence that sets a predicate adjective (or appositive noun) as a subject complement must contain a linking verb.

In your latest list, they all appear to be resultant linking verbs, where the adjective describes the condition of the subject resulting from the verb action. #1 may indicate a state-- a stative (? - I may have just coined that) linking verb.

So is this a valid list of linking verbs:

Be (all forms)
act,appear,arrive,become,chance,come,continue,
evolve,fall,feel,get,go,grow,hear,keep,left,lie,lo ok,
make,plead,prove,remain,resemble,run,savor,
seem,show,sit,smell,sound,squirm,stand,stay,
taste,turn,wax,wriggle

I read that linking verbs are considered to be a "closed" set of words. Is this all of them?

.
I don't quite understand how this thread has popped back up again after almost 2 years, but if you are still around, notmyname--

any list containing verbs as disparate as wriggle, savor and plead is not likely to be a closed set.
