Many students come to our institute wanting to sign up for our IELTS preparation classes. We usually give an IELTS test as their placement test.
But this can cause some problems if they are to be put in our intermediate or upper-intermediate levels. The IELTS test cant simply tell us what course book they would have to study.what's the best way to solve this?
not to mention the "suits"
Do they need the academic test? I have no idea about Iran, but it is being overused in some places- where I live they give the academic test regardless of whether students actually need it, forcing students to focus on a specific set of skills for the exam at the expense of learning things that might be of more use to them. Are many of them going to be heading for studies in English-speaking environments?
Which books do you use?

Yes,most of them need the academic test and most of them are heading for English-speaking countries. For our IELTS courses we have'nt specified any books yet but right now, we're thinking of New Insight into IELTS and Focus on IELTS.
Dear Tdol,
Actually, the case is, a majority of these applicants seem to have no clue what the prerequisites for such a course are. Is there any especial course book (say, for an intensive period) to be worked out with applicants who need a general revision of the main skills before they set out to do the IELTS course itself? (a pre-IELTS course indeed) Thanks.
