Default clouds cleared /upoff

Clouds gathered heavily in the east; as a sequel, it rained heavily. Now, there are no clouds. For what is in bold letters, can I say: 'the clouds cleared up"?

"The sky cleared up" is the usual expression in English.

"The clouds lifted" would work.

I think you can't say it rained heavily "as a sequel." A sequel is the next installment in a narrative (film or literature, etc.)

You can say, "then it rained heavily."

Also notice that there is the verb "to pour," which means "to rain heavily." So it should be used in place of the weak verb-adjective combination:
"then it poured."
