Re: pls check if this is correct sentence
joey is visiting friends and family in the west coast this weekend
> Upper case J for "Joey"
- It is a proper noun
- It is the first word of the sentence
> Upper case letters for "West Coast" in this case
> ON the West Coast, not IN
- But: "He is visiting friends IN Mendocino."
> Period at the end of the sentence
Joey is visiting friends and family on the West Coast this weekend.

As Ann pointed out, the preposition "in" is incorrect for West Coast, however had that been a state or city "in" would have been alright.
Joey is visiting friends and family in New York this weekend.

Anupum, I got quite confused with this problem one time.
"in" or "on"
I live ___ the Oakdale section of town.
I had an apartment __ the East End.
My sister lives ___ a street near the ocean.
My school is ____ Plainview.
My school is ____ Plainview Street.
I know what I would say -- but what I don't know is how to generalize a principle or rule.
Any suggestions?

But I took this to mean that it's all just usage, and ESL students just have to memorize it? :-(
Re: pls check if this is correct sentence
I am not sure about any rules, which can specifically be used in this senario to draw a generalization. Need to do some research and cull out something. I will get back with this...
