(a) You must see him UNDERLINED GRAMMATICAL STRUCTURE = MUST IS A MODAL VERB THAT HELPS TO EMPHASISE THAT THE SPEAKER WANTS THE SUBJECT TO SEE HIM (b) You must have seen him UNDERLINED GRAMMATICAL STRUCTURE = MODAL + ACTION VERB DIFFERENCE IN MEANING = (A) MEANS TO DO IN THE FUTURE AND (B) MEANS IN THE PAST Please can you tell me if my answers are correct? | I think you could add more to the first to tell us what stage the train would be at in the three forms and who did the painting in the second. And you might want to check 2a- you're right about the tense, but have not mentioned the structure being used- have + noun phrase + past participle. The structure can be used in different tenses and forms- I'm having the house painted next week, etc. |
