Meat and seat have the same vowel sounds. Offhand, I don't see any other matches. (Put has the same vowel sound as soot. Cup has the same vowel sound as luck.) :)

Still and bin are a match. So are heard and turn. So are love and cup. (I am not certain that the vowel in still and the vowel in bin are pronounced identically, but they are very close in sound.) I do not pronounce the vowel sounds in wash and hot the same way. :)

The vowel sound of four is the same as ore. The vowel sound of dawn is the same as awl. The vowel sounds of friend and bread are closer, but they are not, I think, identical. :)

Wash\hot sounds fine to my BE ears. It can very tricky to isolate the sound as the letters around can affect the vowel. some are not perfect matches, but are close. How do you say 'wash', BTW? What's the difference?

It was, but it rhymes with 'posh' in BE.

Does your posh rhyme with bosh and slosh? :) (BTW, love and cup was a good find.) :)

Also, heard and herd sound the same - as in leg. Whereas turn is like furnace, urn, and cup. Is this British pronounciation too? Iain |
