well, I'm stuck to this colored expression. Could anyone tell me what does it mean ?

I am not a professional teacher, but this the Oxford English Dictionary's 3rd entry under "rarely"

It seems to be now either archaic or regional, judging by the usage examples cited in the OED.

:up: It's archaic in mainstream Br English, but may still be in use in the part of Dorsetshire that Hardy used as a backcloth to all (nearly all?) his novels.
