I'd like to know if the following sentences are correct, and if not why.

1 How far is the school from your house?
2 The school is 2 miles FAR FROM my house
3 The school is 2 miles FAR AWAY FROM my house
4 The school is 2 miles AWAY FROM my house.

You don't need 'far' in your example ,as know the distance (2 miles), so 4 is ok.
If you don't know the distance you can say:
The school is a long way from my house.
