Default to act, to play, to perform

Hi,
Is it possible to say
1 Plays were acted during the day
2 Plays were played during the day
3. Plays were performed during the day.
Is there a difference between act/play/perform?
Are there combinations in which only one of them is possible and the other two aren't acceptable?
Thanks. Rip.

Default Re: to act, to play, to perform

1. Plays were acted during the day. (someone acts; plays do not act)
2. Plays were played during the day. (plays and played are too similar)
3. Plays were performed during the day.
