Is it correct that the definite article can be omitted, in AmEng, before "BBC" in the sentence below?
"Even BBC puts ' ' around 'standard' on their website."
I would definitely use "the" in that sentence. (I'm a native AmEng speaker.)
I would say "the BBC", "The Economist", "the FBI", "the CIA", "the KGB"
*but*
I would say "CNN", "Newsweek","NASA", "UNICEF", and "Interpol."
Some organizations just have "the" as an intrinsic part of their name.
