7th grade GATE LA prepositions presentation
Slide 1:Prepositions
Slide 2:What is a Preposition?
A preposition is a word that shows a relationship between a noun or pronoun and some other word.
A preposition makes a sentence interesting.
Instead of saying, “The girl is walking.” you should brighten it up and say, “The girl with blonde hair and brown eyes is walking between two pillars of marble to the store with Spongebob toys.” The second one is much more interesting.
Slide 3:What a Prepositional Phrase is Made Out of
A prepositional phrase is made out of a preposition,

Of is the preposition in this prepositional phrase.
A subject,
Her breakfast was made of four grapefruits.
Grapefruits are the subject.
And Sometimes a Modifier.

Four modifies, tells how many, grapefruit.

Slide 5:The Right and Wrong ways to Use a Preposition
The Wrong Way

If you say it this way it sounds like the bug has a fly-swatter.
The Right Way
The bug was smashed by the boy with the fly-swatter.
This sounds much better because now you know that it is not the bug that has the fly-swatter.

Re: 7th grade GATE LA prepositions presentation
Prepositional phrases are not used to brighten up communications, they are very important descriptive devices.
'Grapefruit(s)' is the object of the preposition, not the 'subject'.
The noun comes after, not in front of, the preposition-- that is why it is called a 'pre'-'position'.
I can't imagine 'advance to' being a compound preposition (slide 8).
Eliminate the definition of 'verb' in slide 4: your topic is 'prepositions'.
Otherwise, good job and good luck.

Re: 7th grade GATE LA prepositions presentation
 Now for question #2  , my sister is in 9th grade and she's got an essay she had me type out for her and I'm a little concernd for her so here it is:
Uniforms
Schools should have uniforms required. Uniforms would reduce the amount of gangs. Not only would they reduce gangs, but popularity and depression problems. Uniforms will also make it easier to get dressed in the morning. The schools should require uniforms to reduce the amount of problems related to clothes.
Uniforms would probably reduce the amount of gangs. Uniforms would probably reduce gangs because it would be hard for them to identify themselves if we all look the same. Not only would it be tough for the gangs to identify each other, but it would be easier for the school to identify them, this would, of course, reduce gang activity.
School uniforms would reduce popularity and depression problem. The reduction of popularity would reduce depression because some people go into depression because they don’t think their cool enough. Uniforms would reduce popularity because popularity is sometimes based on your clothes, this would rid us of some popularity problems.
If we had uniforms we wouldn’t have to decide what to wear. Without having to decide what to wear we would have more homework time. Not having to make that decision we could get more sleep and not fall asleep in class. That’s another reason why uniforms are a good idea.
Schools should have uniforms. They help get rid of gangs, popularity, and nasty choices in the morning. These are the reasons we should have uniforms.

Re: 7th grade GATE LA prepositions presentation
Sorry, my sister never told me her grade :-( . My next question is what's the difference between eldest and oldest (other than the e and the o at the beggining)?
Re: 7th grade GATE LA prepositions presentation
Elder/eldest are used with retricted reference- people basically. I wouldn't say 'the eldest bridge'. Also 'elder' can't be used with 'than' and it can't be used after a verb; you can't say 'she's elder'.
Re: 7th grade GATE LA prepositions presentation
Okay, I think I get it now, thanks a lot :-D .
