Default recommend you to

This example is from an FCE study book, but is it correct?

"I'd recommend you to study more if you want to pass."

It seems correct to me- polite form + real situation.

I do not find it acceptable in US English. But I could easily believe that it would be acceptable in other dialects.

I would say, "I recommend that you study more..."

Is there a missing "for"?

"recommend for you to ...."

I don't think so. I would use the version Kaboodles used, but I don't see the stucture as wrong, nor why it would require 'for'.

How about:
I recommend to you to study more if you want to pass.

OOh- a spot of rhetoric. That would work, especially if accompanied by a pointed finger, and a booming voice would help.

Oh! It is a good thing you told me that. I thought "I recommend that you study..." was more authoritative in tone. These are details when you're learning a languge, but you might sometimes get in trouble if you don't know them.
