as close as I get
The meaning of this phrase seems easy to understand, but not as easy in the context:
"I have some fun in the book citing the wording of our domestic anti-trust law and showing how protectionism violates the spirit if not the letter of the Sherman anti-trust act of 1890. This is as close as I get to endorsing a "conspiracy theory."
Does he really endorse a "conspiracy theory" or it's just a sort of sarcasm?
In advance thank you.
