| Coins spun into his hands by merchants to pay expeditions Is that a poetic way to illustrate the image of money dancing, that's to say burning, asking for being used immediately, as if it was given by the tempting Devil. Thank You Last edited by Bushwhacker; 18-Nov-2009 at 09:42. |

| Looks like a partial sentence. Whatever, the image is of coins spinning across a tabletop into his hands. |

It doesn't seem a real image, but a metaphorical one, does it? |

| Yes - though it could be real. |

| A medieval knight had received money (the coins spun into his hands by...) from these merchants having business in the sea, and he used it in order to sponsor armed expeditions and to dig mines. Particularly the mines made the knight a rich man. Does it help? Last edited by Bushwhacker; 18-Nov-2009 at 17:01. |

| I don't think a table was involved at all. A merchant flipped a coin up in the air (http://tr2blog.files.wordpress.com/2...coin-flip.jpg| ), and the knight caught it. There's another meaning of 'spin' that could be involved here - 'to make out of nothing much'. Hence 'a money-spinning idea'. The knight just happened to acquire the money.) b |
