[Grammar] comma splices

Yes, there is a comma splice. What was your question about it? How would you fix it?

This sentence isn't too long and a good old 'and' would suffice:

By the time Julia Roberts was 23, she had won two academy award nominations and had also become the world's most popular female actress.

In the original sentence, 'also' makes it sound as if the two things are quite separate. On the contrary, she had won the Oscars because her performances were so good, and leading up to these awards from the Academy of Performing Arts, the public recognized her talent and she became popular.

By the way "female actress" is redundant.

I think 'comma splice' is letting him/her go up the wrong alley. There is ducto, I lead .........and there's perspective and information.
