| The simple rule here is that something can arise that stands - aside from something arising in conversation and alike (which means to appear). i.e. "Arise Sir Wogan" (get to your feet). Something can rise freely or to a standing position (or conceptually - "rise to the challenge" / "the figures rose this quarter"). This word is more versitile. |
