Default with no rhyme or reason

    Dear teachers,
Could you tell me what it means to 'march with no rhyme or reason'?
    I'll be really grateful.

    Hello,

I'm no teacher, but I'll try to explain that idiom. If you do something without rhyme or reason, it is not obvious why you do it what you supposed to achieve.

    I hope that's a helpful explanation.

I'm sorry, the word "and" is missing between "it" and "what".

The crowd gathered but marched with no rhyme or reason.

I'm sorry, there is no context to it.

    Hi!

From Harper's American Idioms Dictionary by Richard A. Spears, 1987 edition: without rhyme or reason without purpose, order, or reason. ( A cliche. See variations in the examples.)

The teacher said my report was disorganized. My paragraphs seemed to be without rhyme or reason.

Everything you do seems to be without rhyme or reason.

This procedure seems to have no rhyme or reason.
