Could someone please tell me what the journalist means about the paragraph I quoted from an article of the Daily Mail?
I have got the info. about red-brick university from Wikipedia, but I don't understand why the journalist especially mentioned it here. Could you please explain it for me?

Re: red-brick university It is a term used in the UK for the new and untried "universities", which were often technical colleges or polytechnics upgraded to universities. They are rarely more than 100 years old, and usually a great deal younger. Originally Posted by thedaffodils
