reported speech
Please help me quickly!!
The basic rules of reported speech are clear. Present tense is changed into past tense etc., but if something is still true, you may keep the same tense. If you have the question:
- She asked him: "What is your name?"
The most usual reported question would be:
- She asked him what his name was.
BUT: Can you, by any means, say:
- She asked him what his name is. ??? (Some people may argue that his name is still the same.)
I really need a quick answer to this question. Thank you!!!

The quick answer is, no you can't, use "was".
