I would like to pick up your mind for a little minutes for having your opinion about the words in bold part in the following sentence, because it is not very clear for me the meaning of that.

"The bombs went off at locations across the city and were powerful enough to shake buildings ten miles away." (Extract from the Timesonline).

Is the writer talking about the location of the bombs or about the explosion?

"The bombs went off..." means that the bombs exploded.
