Last but not least

pls tell me what "last but not least mean" ? This term is so confusing to me.

The last thing on the list and the last person in line, and the thing/the person is important. The thing/person just happens to come last. Coming last doesn't mean the thing/the person is unimportant.

"Last in sequence but not least in importance" (dict.), you want to let others know that the last thing/person deserves an equal amount of importance and recognition.

ex.

" I really want to thank all my teachers for being such a wonderful support and help in getting me through grade 12, Miss Black, the English teacher, Mr.White - the social studies teacher, Miss Blue- the science teacher and last but not least Mr. Brown - our Principal for all his advice and guidance."

Even though Mr. Brown is listed last, he is equally important.
