Yes, you used the word "perspective" the right way, but it is a bit unclear to me what a general perspective is.

I don't know what a general perspective would be. Perhaps you mean the perspective of the average person.

A perspective is a specific thing in the sense that everyone has a slightly different perspective than everybody else.

If you mean the ideas, opinions, etc, expressed, you could use 'outlook'.
