Default 5/16 inch long
1. The body, excluding legs, is 5/16 to 5/8 inch long. (What does '5/16' mean? Does it mean 5 divided by 16?)

No, it means that one inch has been divided into 16 equal parts and that the body is the same length as 5 of these equal parts placed end to end.
