Indirect Objective Complement

Dear Teachers,

for example: They made David captain.

the "captain" above is objective complement for David(object) and its type is noun.

for example: They paid David $4000.

the "David" above is indirect object and its type is noun & no objective complement.



Is there objective complement for indirect object. if so, could you give me an example.

Yes, although comparatively rare - and hence seldom discussed in grammar books - there is such a thing as an indirect object complement, e.g. the infinitive phrase of

They paid David 4,000 dollars to swim the Atlantic.

which functions as complement to IO 'David'.
