Third Party Usage

Is is rude to use the third party tense when refering to a person who is engaged in a conversation.
Ex.

Pt is talking with a Dr. about making an appt.

Wife says "He is haveing trouble with his vision and needs help", like the pt. was not involved in the conversation.

Not necessarily. Maybe there was more to the conversation before...? She might be ticked off at the doctor for not doing anything while her husband really needs help. It sounds to me she has stepped into the conversation to let the doctor she is not happy with him.

I see nothing wrong with it, though she could say 'my husband' or use his name to make it less impersonal.
