| I was watching friends the other day (episode 223). Here is a scene where Monica is talking with her boyfriend Richard about her "cute little obsessive things". MONICA: You would not. I can't believe this. I hate this, you're too normal. I can't believe my boyfriend doesn't have a thing. My boyfriend doesn't have a thing. RICHARD: See, if anyone overheard that, I didn't come off well. First, it seesm that Monica's words have another meaning or something, which I don't know. Second, why richard uses "past tense"? Why wouldn't he say "See, if anyone overhear that, I won't come off well"? thanks |
