"when" sounds better to me than "while". But it is not clear whether you were
feeling ill during the whole holiday or not.
I'd say I was feeling ill.

So dnt confuse two tenses
ditto I was being - past progressive tense. Not present.

No, you can't say "I was being on holiday".
You say "I fell ill while I was on holiday".
new2 was wrong about the grammar, but right about the usage.
