problems in reading skill

I am a vietnamese,and Iam trained to be a teacher of english in my country.. My biggest challenge is to finish a difficult long reading. I often lack of time because of my slow speed. How I should practise to to speed up???

What kind of text causes difficulty, and where do the problems lie? Is it simply length, or is it vocabulary? Does it vary with subject matter?
