what is the right tense?

Hi,

Would it sound more accurate if i use the simple continuous tense or present perfect tense in these sentences than the simple past tense?

1. After Mother Theresa passed away, her workers have continued her noble work.

2. Mother Theresa had done so much charity work around the world. Her love to care for the poor, the sick and the dying had never failed. Her passing was a huge loss for many people. Her former students and workers are continuing her legacy of spreading love.

The first would be better in the context of the rest of the passage.
