    Default drinkability of champaign

Is it a horrendous mistake to use 'champaign' for champagne?

I don't know how "horrendous" it is, I think it would depend on how important you see spelling mistakes as being, but it is wrong.

It could laso depend on the context- it would be a horrendous mistake if invitations or something were printed with it, but a minor mistake in most writing.
