Restrictive vs Non-restrictive Do we use a comma in the following cases?
1) My friend Mary is sick.
2) I wish your grandson, John, a speedy recovery. (assume there's only one grandson).

Teacher Re: Restrictive vs Non-restrictive 1- I wouldn't use a comma here, unless I only had one friend. 2 is correct because there's only one grandson. You have the right idea here in both cases.
