Please help me inprove this sentence
In actual calculation, the way that the block A is
enlarged is not by doubling it, i.e., A'=A + A, but usually by
adding a single site to it, i.e., A' = A + 1.
Thanks.

Here one can understand, for example, that 'site' representing an atom, a 'block' is a set of sites. I have defined 'block' in the previous paragraph (not shown here).

If you've defined your terms the equations make sense. (Incidentally, it's 'improve', and most modern technical writing avoids "i.e.".)

Sorry, this is a typo since N and M buttons are so close in my keyboard
You said that the sentence makes sense, but is this normal/good English? How do you rewrite the sentence without using 'i.e.'? I think it helps the sentence more clear.
Thanks.
