Default Two questions

1.Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.
“Cling to them as you would your life. “
Is there a word omitted in the sentence?
Cling to them as you (cling ) to your life?
2.Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us each together.
“It is this fragile thread that binds us each together.”
What does the sentence mean?

1- The word is understood. It's ellipsis and perfectly correct to leave it out.

2- Our imperfections bind us together because we are all fallible, and this common humanity joins us. If we didn't have them, arrogance might divide us.

Can I understand in this way, the sentence means that just becausewe are not perfect, we need each other?
