What does the 'seasons' mean?
He spent several seasons there with a man called Cartwright.
This sentence is taken from Collins Cobuild. The Chinese translation of the dictionary translated the 'several seasons' as several periods of the year (referring to spring, summer, autumn, etc). But I think here the 'several seasons' means 'several periods of the year(s) when a sport is played'. Am I right? And any other possibilities?
Thank you in advance.
