I've read in a learning book the following sentence.

We hear that you have put a new electric shaver on the market.

Why don't they use "we have heard" or "we heard"? "We hear" sounds really odd to me.

well, if the sentence is like this:

I knew you were a kind person, but you are wrong this time.

or

I have known you are a kind person, but you are wrong this time.

these two sentences are correct grammatically, but if the speaker thinks it is not necessary to emphasize the meaning of "already", he can say" I know..."

You could also say 'we have heard'. It may look strange but think about what the verb means here- it doesn't really mean using your ears, it really means that they have this information.

Do you mean that "we hear" is the same as "we have the infomation" in that case? If so, I understand why they use simple present
