cry for sorrow

First of all, thanks for the help you have given me ! : )

I´d like to know if "cry for sorrow" can apply to everyday situations, such as breaking things at home, getting low marks, etc...

e.g: The little boy cried for sorrow when he saw he had broken his mom´s flask of perfume.

(or is to "cry for sorrow" too strong for that ? Should it be used only for great sadness, such as a loss, etc ? )

I have never heard "cry for sorrow". I would simply say he cried. You could also say: "He cried because he was unhappy." Or: "He cried because he was upset." Or: "He cried because he was sad."

How about 'cried sorrowfully' or 'with\from sorrow'. However, these would be very strong.
