She ventured to say that she was going to get married the moment she left school.

venture = put forward, of a guess, in spite of possible refutation

She made bold to say that she was going to get married the moment she left school.

make bold = dare; presume

He ventured (upon) a remark.

I venture to suggest that your whole idea is unworkable.

Today is the first time I've ventured out of doors since my illness.

I venture to disagree with you.

May I venture to ask you a few questions?

Will you venture on a piece of cake?

When I venture at the comic style.
I can’t understand your friend.

understand = know and comprehend the nature or meaning of as in: “She did not understand her husband.”

I can’t make out your friend.

make out = understand as in: “I can't make out what she is trying to say.”

You must have your old coat altered.

alter = cause to change; make different; cause a transformation

You must have your old coat made over.

make over = redo, renovate

They went to the gate as soon as the light in the house went down.

They made for the gate as soon as the lights in the house went down.

make for = go toward
