reconcile/make up/in someone's stead/invent/fabricate
Dear teachers,
Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?
The two reconciled only after a lapse of ten years.
reconcile = to settle or resolve
The two made it up only after the lapse of ten years.
make it up = resolve a quarrel
Propitious now and reconciled by prayer.
reconcile = to cause to be friendly again; to conciliate anew; to restore to friendship; to bring back to harmony; to cause to be no longer at variance; as, to reconcile persons who have quarreled
The church [if defiled] is interdicted till it be reconciled [i.e., restored to sanctity] by the bishop.

in someone’s stead = instead of

invent = fabricate = to concoct in order to deceive
He made up a dozen excuses for being absent from the lecture.
make up = devise a fiction or falsehood; invent
